South African Rand Poised for Weekly Gain; Investors Resume Carry Trades

(Bloomberg) -- South Africa's rand is headed for a
weekly gain against the dollar as a rebound in global stocks
prompted investors to resume buying emerging-market assets.

The rand also advanced against the Swiss franc and Japanese
yen as traders borrowed funds in those currencies to invest in
higher yielding stocks and bonds in South Africa, a strategy
known as the carry trade. The rand extended gains after central
bank Governor Tito Mboweni said he was concerned about inflation
in Africa's largest economy.

Swiss Franc Set for Biggest Weekly Gain Against Euro Since March on Risk

(Bloomberg) -- The Swiss franc headed for its
biggest weekly gain versus the euro in four months as a slump in
global stocks prompted traders to pay back loans in Switzerland
used to buy higher-yielding assets elsewhere.

The franc advanced against the Australian and New Zealand
dollars as investors unwound so-called carry trades that take
advantage of borrowing costs in Switzerland, which are the
second lowest among major economies. New Zealand's key interest
rate is 5.75 percentage points higher than the Swiss benchmark.

Swiss Franc Declines Versus Euro, Dollar as Investors Resume Carry Trades

(Bloomberg) -- The Swiss franc fell against the euro
and the dollar as investors increased so-called carry trades
funded in the currency as European equities stabilize.

The franc is trading near a record low against the euro as
investors use the Swiss currency to buy higher-yielding assets
elsewhere. The franc fell against all of the 16 most actively
traded currencies today. At 2.5 percent, Switzerland's key rate
is still among the lowest in the world after Japan's 0.5 percent
benchmark.

Swiss Franc Advances to Seven-Month High as Investors Unwind Carry Trades

(Bloomberg) -- The Swiss franc rose to a seven-month
high against the dollar as investors avoided riskier assets and
scaled back so-called carry trades.

Switzerland's currency also gained versus the euro as
investors unwound trades funded by borrowing the franc and the
Japanese yen at their relatively low interest rates. The franc
was also buoyed by a report that showed retail sales in the
Alpine economy rose for a 12 month in May.

Swiss Franc Gains Versus Euro on Speculation Central Bank May Buy Currency

(Bloomberg) -- The Swiss franc rose by the most in
two weeks versus the euro on speculation its slide to a record
low may prompt the central bank to take action, to prevent
inflation from accelerating.

The franc is set to snap a four-day losing run, partly on
speculation the Swiss National Bank may intervene like the
Reserve Bank of New Zealand, which sold its currency on June 11.
The SNB has said the franc's drop isn't justified by economic
fundamentals, and may lead to quickening inflation.

Swiss Franc Declines to Record Versus Euro as Rate Gap Spurs Carry Trades

(Bloomberg) -- The Swiss franc dropped to a record
low versus the euro as speculation Switzerland's policy makers
will lag behind the European Central Bank in raising interest
rates prompted investors to pursue so-called carry trades.

The franc fell with the yen as investors favored higher
yielding currencies from the New Zealand dollar to the South
African rand. The currency used by 13 European nations benefited
as investors borrowed in francs to fund investments in the higher
yielding euro, which last week had the biggest weekly gain versus
the yen since the start of April.
