Rockwell Collins profit up on aero sales

(Reuters) - The company, which makes cockpit electronics and other plane parts for Boeing Co. and Airbus , posted a quarterly profit of $146 million, or 86 cents per share, compared with $121 million, or 70 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.

Rockwell Collins profit up on aerospace sales

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 26 - Rockwell Collins Inc. said on Thursday that quarterly profit rose a greater-than-expected 21 percent, helped by strong sales of its high-tech aerospace systems.



The company, which makes cockpit electronics and other plane parts for Boeing Co. and Airbus , also said full-year profit would probably be at the top end of its previous forecast as the global boom in aircraft production continues.

UPDATE 1-Boeing reports profit, raises outlook; shares up

(Reuters) - Its shares jumped as much as 6 percent to an all-time high
of $110 in electronic trading before the bell, later paring
those gains to $106.63.




Boeing, which vies with Airbus for the title of
world's biggest plane maker and is the Pentagon's No. 2
supplier, reported quarterly profit of $1.1 billion, or $1.35
per share, compared with a loss of $160 million, or 21 cents
per share, in the year-ago quarter.

Tam, Gol Shares Tumble After Airplane Crash in Brazil Kills as Many as 200

(Bloomberg) -- The shares of Tam SA and Gol Linhas
Aereas Inteligentes SA, Brazil's biggest two airlines, fell after a
crash in Sao Paulo's city airport claimed the lives of as many as
200 people in the country's worst air disaster.

The A320 plane, built by Airbus SAS and operated by Tam, slid
off the runway, crossed a highway and slammed into a gas station
and building last night. Rescue workers pulled 102 bodies from the
debris. Survivors probably won't be found on the plane, which was
carrying 186 people when it crashed and burst into flames, Sao
Paulo State Governor Jose Serra said.

Embraer May Make Bigger Jets to Rival Airbus, Boeing, Chief Executive Says

(Bloomberg) -- Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica SA
may make bigger jets to challenge Airbus SAS and Boeing Co. in the
next decade if new engine technology is developed, Chief Executive
Officer Frederico Curado said.

``If there is a huge change in the structure of the dynamics
of this market, we will certainly look into that,'' Curado said in
an interview in Paris.

France hopes to get EADS deal

(Reuters) - "We have not finished yet," an official at the Elysee
presidential palace said on Sunday. "But we are rather
optimistic about the outcome of our discussions with Daimler,
Lagardere and the German state," he added.




Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Nicolas Sarkozy will
meet at the Toulouse headquarters of civil plane maker Airbus.

AirAsia to Order 25 Airbus A320s Planes Valued at $1.8 Billion, People Say

(Bloomberg) -- AirAsia Bhd., Southeast Asia's
largest budget carrier, plans to place an order for 25 single-
aisle planes, valued at $1.8 billion from Airbus SAS, two people
with direct knowledge of the deal said.

AirAsia is converting options for A320 planes that were
part of an order placed in January, said the people, who
declined to be identified before details are made public.

UPDATE 1-AIRSHOW-Hong Kong Airlines to buy 51 Airbus planes

(Reuters) - Hong Kong Airlines -- in which global financier George Soros
owns an indirect stake -- signed a memorandum of understanding to
buy 30 A320-family narrowbody planes, 20 A330 widebody aircraft
and a corporate jet, Airbus told reporters at the Paris air show
on Thursday.




The new aircraft will help position Hong Kong Airlines among
the leading carriers in the Asia Pacific, Chairman Ren Wei Dong
said in a statement.

FedEx quarterly profit rises, misses expectations

(Reuters) - The Memphis, Tn.-based company said net income for its 2007 fiscal fourth quarter ending May 31 rose 7 percent to $610 million, or $1.96 a share, compared with $568 million, or $1.82, a year earlier.




FedEx said the results included a gain from a settlement with Airbus related to its A380 order cancellation of approximately 6 cents a share. Excluding that gain, FedEx's quarterly earnings came in below the $1.96 per share expected by Wall Street analysts, according to Reuters Estimates.

India would welcome Airbus assembly plant

(Reuters) - Airbus agreed last year to set up an assembly line for the
A320 family in China from 2009 to meet strong demand. India's
aviation market is also witnessing rapid expansion.




"I would be very happy to see that," Indian Civil Aviation
Minister Praful Patel told reporters, asked whether Airbus
should consider opening an assembly line in India.

Airbus gives bullish orders forecast

(Reuters) - The figure would be down from 790 net orders in 2006 when Airbus surrendered leadership of the global order race to Boeing and saw its market share fall to 43 percent, following delays in building its A380 superjumbo and designing the mid-sized A350.




It is the first 2007 orders forecast issued by Airbus -- it usually predicts only deliveries which are forecast at 440-450 this year, leaving Airbus on top of Boeing -- but reflects the firm's growing optimism as it recovers from a shaky start.

Boeing dismisses Airbus order blitz

(Reuters) - European planemaker Airbus hit the ground running at the start of the week long Le Bourget air show with firm orders for 219 planes including more than 114 of its revamped A350 model, which still remains far behind sales of the 787.




Boeing often accuses Airbus of storing up orders to gain publicity at air shows and of confusing the real picture by mixing up firm and provisional orders. Airbus says its announcements schedule is in the hands of its customers.

Qatar orders worth $17 bln boost Airbus book

(Reuters) - The deals include confirmation of a previously announced order for 80 new Airbus A350 XWB models due from 2013, worth $16 billion at list prices, and three additional A380s worth almost $1 billion in total.




Qatar had already ordered 3 of the A380 superjumbo aircraft with options for another two.

Airbus seen announcing Qatar, Emirates deals

(Reuters) - Airbus kicks off what is expected to be a busy week of commercial announcements with a news conference set for 10 a.m. with Qatar Airways, Dubai-based Emirates and others mooted as possible customers to announce major plane deals.




Emirates is set to place a provisional order worth more than $3 billion for 10 Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft, industry sources said. The order will give a boost from the aircraft's biggest customer to the A380 program after a two-year delay.

AIRSHOW-EADS seeks to prove itself as a "normal company"

(Reuters) - The call from French and German executives came on the eve
of the Paris Air Show, where French President Nicolas Sarkozy is
expected to set out his vision for European aerospace amid
doubts over the future of a sensitive EADS shareholder pact.




EADS has been plagued by disagreements between French and
German shareholders, politicians and staff over output delays at
Airbus, which contributed to 10,000 job cuts and slowed down
Europe's largest industrial project, the A380 superjumbo.
