CBOT shares to stop trading as of close

(Reuters) - The announcement came after the results of Monday's vote were certified. It marks the end of a bidding war that erupted in March between the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and upstart energy bourse IntercontinentalExchange , pushing the CME to buy the CBOT for $12 billion.




The marriage between the two largest U.S. futures exchanges will create the world's largest derivatives mart known as CME Group Inc., a CME/Chicago Board of Trade Company.

UPDATE 3-CME buy of CBOT easily approved by shareholders

(Reuters) - CHICAGO, July 9 - Shareholders of Chicago
Mercantile Exchange Holdings Inc and CBOT Holdings Inc
voted on Monday to merge the two largest U.S. futures
exchanges under one roof.




After an almost 9-month gestation period, the votes
delivered one huge, almost $12 billion baby.

ICE won't say if higher CBOT offer will be made

(Reuters) - ICE is in a battle with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange to purchase the Chicago Board of Trade . The CME on Friday increased its takeover offer for CBOT to $11.9 billion, besting the ICE's current offer worth about $11.8 billion.



"I can't talk about it. Give me a break," ICE Chairman Jeffrey Sprecher told Reuters before testifying at a Senate hearing on excessive speculation in U.S. natural gas markets.

CME buy of CBOT looks likely as shareholders vote

(Reuters) - Most analysts are predicting victory for Chicago Mercantile
Exchange Holdings Inc. after the company improved its
bid for a third time on Friday in an 11th hour move to quell
dissent among CBOT Holdings shareholders.




A vote that looked like it might be a toss-up, given a
higher competing bid for CBOT from IntercontinentalExchange
Inc. ., now has the makings of a landslide.

U.S. Stocks Advance on Takeovers; CBOT Holdings, Exxon Mobil Shares Rise

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks climbed and the Standard
& Poor's 500 Index posted its biggest weekly advance since
April, helped by takeovers and improved earnings prospects for
energy companies.

CBOT Holdings Inc., owner of the third-largest futures
exchange, climbed to a record after the Chicago Mercantile
Exchange raised its acquisition offer. Exxon Mobil Corp., the
world's biggest oil company, led energy producers to a peak
after crude oil jumped to a 10-month high.

(Bloomberg) -- The following is a list of companies
whose shares are having unusual price changes on U.S. exchanges.
Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names. Share
prices are as of 2:40 p.m. in New York.

CBOT Holdings Inc. (BOT US) rose $13.10, or 6.4 percent, to
$219.25. Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings Inc. (CME US)
raised its offer for the Chicago Board of Trade for a third time,
to $11 billion, to fend off rival Intercontinental Exchange Inc.
(ICE US) and form the world's largest futures exchange. Chicago
Merc shares rose $5.65 to $561.34, and Intercontinental shares
gained $4.17 to $155.98.

CME "confident" CBOT $11.6 bln deal will get done

(Reuters) - CBOT members and shareholders and CME shareholders will wrap up voting on Monday on CME's plan to buy the Chicago Board of Trade's parent for about $11.6 billion, including a one-time special dividend to be paid by CBOT.




The deal would put the numbers one and two U.S. futures marts together to create the world's largest derivatives exchange.

CME chides ICE for "spoiler" role in CBOT deal

(Reuters) - "Having been rejected by CBOT's board not once but twice,
ICE has yet to address the fundamental strategic and
operational flaws in its proposed transaction," CME said in a
statement.

ICE says it could enhance CBOT takeover terms

(Reuters) - CBOT's board has rejected ICE's takeover proposal as being more risky than joining up with CME, its former cross-town rival and recent close collaborator. But the Atlanta-based energy exchange continues to pour on the pressure.




"We are prepared to enter into such a dialogue with you at any time while you are considering our proposal or, if you prefer, as an alternative to our proposal," ICE Chairman Jeffrey Sprecher told CBOT officials in a letter.

hold separate votes on the merger deal on July 9. CBOT's board
has rejected ICE's takeover proposal.

(Reuters) - "We believe if this deal is voted down, CBOT's shares may
fall precipitously, and we do not see the board accepting an
ICE proposal," Proxy Governance said in a report.

CBOT says ISS recommends vote for CME merger

(Reuters) - CBOT shareholders and members vote on the CME deal on July
9, but are mulling a higher, competing bid from Atlanta-based
IntercontinentalExchange Inc. .




"If one is to compare ICE's adjusted offer price with CME's
offer price, the difference between the two offers is
marginal," ISS said in its report.

ICE urges CBOT members to vote against CME deal

(Reuters) - ICE Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Sprecher said in the letter that CBOT's board has agreed to a "bargain basement sale" in a transaction that would leave $1.3 billion of shareholders' money on the table, and urged them to vote against the deal.
