Copper Futures Gain for Sixth Session on Strikes, Inventory Speculation

(Bloomberg) -- Copper rose for a sixth straight
session in New York, extending a rally to a seven-week high, on
speculation supplies will be disrupted by mine strikes in Latin
America as stockpiles dwindle to 10-month lows.

Mexico's National Mining and Metal Workers Union began a
one-day strike today to press for better safety in mines, a
spokeswoman said. Copper stockpiles monitored by the London Metal
Exchange fell 2.2 percent to 107,950 tons, the exchange said
today, the lowest level since Aug. 10. Copper futures have risen
25 percent this year as inventories slumped 41 percent.

U.K. FTSE 100 Index Falls, Led By British Airways; Legal & General Drops

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks dropped for the first day
in three, paced by British Airways Plc and EasyJet Plc after
Britain raised its terror alert.

Legal & General Plc and Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group
Plc led insurers lower also on concern claims tied to floods in
the U.K. will rise. Mining stocks limited declines, paced by
Lonmin Plc on speculation the platinum producer maybe a takeover
target.

Western Mining Seeks an $815 Million Initial Public Offering in Shanghai

(Bloomberg) -- China's Western Mining Co., a
producer of zinc, nickel and copper, is seeking as much as 6.2
billion yuan ($815 million) in a Shanghai initial public
offering to expand production and buy stakes in other mines.

The company will sell as many as 460 million new shares at
12 yuan to 13.48 yuan each, Xining, Qinghai-based Western Mining
said today in a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange. UBS AG,
Europe's biggest bank by assets, is arranging the sale, its
first in China.

Global rally sweeps FTSE up as commodities bounce

(Reuters) - The leading share index joined a rebound in global equities on Thursday by jumping 0.6 percent, hoisted by commodities shares and by expectations that the Federal Reserve will keep U.S. interest rates on hold.

Mining and oil shares jointly added more than 26 points to the index's upside as copper prices bounced back and oil edged higher on a drop in U.S. gasoline inventories.

S.Africa stocks fall 1.6 pct, led by miners

(Reuters) - Mining and resource stocks, led by Anglo American, dragged South Africa's blue-chip Top-40 index 1.62 percent lower on Wednesday as lower metal prices and fears about U.S. economic growth scared off investors.

The Top-40 index ended 1.62 percent down at 25,568 points while the broader All-share index ended 1.6 percent down at 28,285 points.

Miners, MTN drag South African bourse down

(Reuters) - Mining stocks, led by Anglo American, and mobile operator MTN pushed South Africa's blue chip Top-40 index lower on Monday, amid investor concern about lower metal prices and a possible interest rate hike.

The Top-40 ended 0.59 percent lower at 26,139 points while the broader All-share index closed down 0.62 percent at 28,914 points.

Norilsk CEO expects LionOre deal by June 28

(Reuters) - Norilsk Nickel expects to complete the acquisition of LionOre Mining International Ltd. by June 28, when a rival offer by Xstrata Plc. is due to expire, the company's chief executive said on Tuesday.

Denis Morozov told a conference he considered it unlikely Xstrata would match Norilsk's C$6.8 billion bid for the world's 10th-largest nickel producer.
