U.K. Benchmark Index Falls, Paced by Lonmin, BHP Billiton; Barclays Gains

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks fell for the first time
in three days, led by Lonmin Plc after the mining company said it
will delay the sale of as much as 90,000 ounces of platinum. BHP
Billiton Plc and Xstrata Plc slid as copper retreated.

Barclays Plc paced advancing shares after Royal Bank of
Scotland Plc sweetened its 71.1 billion euro ($98.1 billion)
offer for ABN Amro Holding NV. GlaxoSmithKline Plc and BT Group
Plc advanced after brokerages raised their recommendation for the
companies' shares.

Copper Workers at Chile's Collahuasi Mine Plan Strike Today; Price Gains

(Bloomberg) -- A union at Dona Ines de Collahuasi,
Chile's third-largest copper mine, plans to begin a strike over
wages today, adding to labor unrest in Latin America that may
curb global supplies of the metal and bolster prices.

``The strike is definitely on,'' union President Hernan
Farias said yesterday. The walkout is set to start at 8 a.m.
local time at the mine, which accounts for 2.6 percent of global
supply, Ferias said. The planned stoppage follows more than a
month of talks with owners Xstrata Plc and Anglo American Plc.

Norilsk says S.Africa regulator clears LionOre bid

(Reuters) - Norilsk's all-cash offer expires on June 28. The latest
offer trumped a bid by Anglo-Swiss miner Xstrata Plc .




Norilsk and LionOre both have operations in South Africa.

Miners, banks pull FTSE down amid global sell-off

(Reuters) - Britain's leading shares fell for a sixth consecutive day on Monday, as world markets tracked steep falls on Wall Street at the end of last week, with mining stocks and banks bearing the brunt of the decline.

Miners, which snatched 9 points off the index, all traded in the red as copper prices fell. Anglo American shed 2.2 percent and Xstrata fell 2.4 percent. Antofagasta lost 1.5 percent after a downgrade from Cazenove.

Norilsk CEO expects LionOre deal by June 28

(Reuters) - Norilsk Nickel expects to complete the acquisition of LionOre Mining International Ltd. by June 28, when a rival offer by Xstrata Plc. is due to expire, the company's chief executive said on Tuesday.

Denis Morozov told a conference he considered it unlikely Xstrata would match Norilsk's C$6.8 billion bid for the world's 10th-largest nickel producer.

Anglo to buy more mine assets

(Reuters) - The world's third biggest mining group Anglo American will expand production and buy more assets to meet strong demand for raw materials from China and India, its chairman said on Monday.

Anglo, traditionally more conservative than sector peers such as Xstrata, said that in a rapidly consolidating mining sector, it would be a buyer rather than one of the companies that is bought.

Norilsk says Norway regulator clears LionOre bid

(Reuters) - LionOre advised its investors last week to accept the
Norilsk bid, after Anglo-Swiss miner Xstrata -- which made
prior bids -- elected not to match Norilsk's offer. Norilsk and
Xstrata have also entered a support agreement.




Norilsk also extended the expiration time for its all-cash
offer to June 28 from Monday. LionOre is the world's
10th-largest nickel producer.
